Tidewater Pastoral Counseling Services offers Pre-Marriage Seminars for couples who plan to be married. Couples who are already married may also attend. The 2009 seminars will be conducted by Marty Phillips, Assistant Executive Director of TPCS. Marty is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and a member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors at the Fellow level. He has been licensed in Virginia and working with couples and families for over eighteen years.

The all-day seminars are designed to help you and your partner become acquainted on a deeper level of understanding. Discussions focus on the central issues of modern marriage, expectations for your future together and how to resolve the inevitable conflicts that come with day-to-day living.

Participants have the advantage of learning their own personality styles, using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. As you gain understanding about your own individuality and that of your partner, you become more able to accept each other's feelings, ideas and behaviors.

The Pre-Marriage Seminars emphasize openness as the key to a satisfying relationship. Practice sessions will teach fair, honest ways of communicating without competing.

More than 100 couples attended the Pre-Marriage Seminars last year, and 98% said they "would definitely recommend the seminar to other couples like themselves who were getting married!"
